General Farm Tour –About 1 1/2 hours

    Food and fiber, and a little history and information about what makes our community and economy work.

  • The Story of Sheep and Wool   

  A hands-on presentation, using traditional tools to demonstrate the process of how wool becomes wearable.

  • Farmers and Farm Animals

                                                    

      Students learn what is special about farm animals and have a hands-on experience feeding baby lambs or       calves.

  • Hand washing as a learning experience
  • Hay ride & Border Collie Demonstration   

           

      Ride on a hay wagon pulled by Charlie on his trusty John Deere as we visit chickens,

      cows and sheep in the pasture and watch as Border Collie Dizz or Joli, obeys 

      commands to round up the sheep.

Special Activities To Add To Your Tour

  • Teaching and Production Garden tour

See how and where the food that we eat grows.

  • Pumpkin Patch Visit (Fall)

Take a hayride to our pumpkin patch to pick your very own mini pumpkin to take home.

  • Hay Maze (Seasonal)

Try to find your way through the maze of  giant hay rolls following clues along the way.

  • Butter Making


             

Students make butter, then taste on crackers.

  • Crafts and Art Projects

Hands-on activities using our own wool or farm products. (Usually only time for one project, but check with us when scheduling.)

Wool Bracelet: Students work together to twist dyed wool yarn into a memento to wear home.

Gourd Birdhouse:  Locally grown gourds are turned into colorful birdhouses with a little paint and imagination.

Weaving: hand looms and hand-dyed wool is used to weave any pattern you choose.  (Ages 7 & over).

  • Seed Planting

Groups are given supplies for each student to plant seasonal forages (grasses) once back at school.

  • Information Scavenger Hunt

We can tailor information to highlight or enhance the standards or objectives you wish.  Students must “hunt” for answers provided in presentations.

General Tour and Fall Special Tour Cost:

$6.00 per person with a minimum charge of $150.00 per group.  Special activities require an additional charge.  Please note that we must charge for parents, chaperones and siblings.  Teachers are free.

A non-refundable deposit of $75.00 is required to hold reservation.  All deposits can apply to re-schedule your tour should the need arise.

                  PAYMENT DUE IN FULL ON DAY OF TOUR

Group size:  We can handle large groups of 100 or more.  Bring a whole grade level out for the day!

Grade Level:  Pre-K through Secondary students all have something to gain from this unique experience.

Spring Tours:  from March through May.

Fall Tours:  from September through November. 

Winter & Summer Tours:  available upon request. 

Plan to arrive at 9:00 or 9:30.  Other times may be scheduled.  Please call to inquire. 

Facilities:  You may wish to bring a picnic lunch.  We have a covered picnic area with 10 large picnic tables.  Limited restroom facilities.
